A US$7 billion (€6 billion) investment backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to develop three theme parks in France is expected to create around 22,000 jobs.

The memorandum of agreement signed Monday between the Saudi fund and the French government covers the development of three theme parks near Cergy-Pontoise, about 30 kilometers northwest of Paris, including one expected to be manga-themed.

The project will be led by Qiddiya, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund.

In a post on X, Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, compared the scale of the planned development with Disneyland Paris, which employs around 20,000 people, saying France had not seen a project of its kind since the resort opened.

The President also hailed the project as a “new global destination.”

The agreement was formalized during Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s two-day visit to Paris, where he was hosted by Macron. The two leaders oversaw the signing between French Economy and Finance Minister Roland Lescure and Abdullah Al Dawood, Director General of Qiddiya.
