Abu Dhabi has been ranked among the world’s top 50 emerging startup ecosystems after its ecosystem value increased 3,057% to US$73.4 billion, according to the 2026 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) published by Startup Genome and the Global Entrepreneurship Network.
The emirate was ranked in the #41–50 category globally, improving from the #51–60 bracket in the previous year and marking one of its strongest advances to date in the annual rankings.
The report, unveiled at VivaTech Paris, analyzed data from more than 5.5 million companies across over 350 startup ecosystems worldwide. Abu Dhabi’s rise reflects continued progress in developing a globally connected innovation ecosystem, supported by increased startup activity, improved access to capital, and a growing concentration of technology companies and talent.
According to the report, Abu Dhabi generated US$73.4 billion in ecosystem value between July 2023 and December 2025, representing a 3,057% increase compared to the 2018–2020 period. Ecosystem value measures economic impact through startup valuations and exits.
The emirate also recorded strong rankings across several regional categories, reinforcing its position as one of the Middle East and North Africa’s fastest-growing startup hubs.
Abu Dhabi ranked second in the MENA region for AI-Native Cluster, which measures the scale and intensity of AI startup activity. It placed fourth for both R&D Engine, which evaluates research and patent activity, and Performance, which assesses startup value creation through exits and funding.
The ecosystem also ranked fifth in MENA for Funding Momentum and Talent Strength, while placing among the top 15 regional ecosystems for Funding Runway and Affordable Talent.
The findings highlight Abu Dhabi’s progress in creating an environment that supports innovation-led growth through long-term investment, progressive regulation, and coordinated ecosystem development. The report noted strong momentum across sectors including AI, FinTech, ClimateTech, Web3, and digital assets.
