While delivering a keynote address at Hub71’s Impact Event 2026, an annual event that convenes stakeholders across the startup, investment, and innovation ecosystem, CEO Ahmad Ali Alwan shed light on the characteristics that help build resilient economies through periods of uncertainty.
“This year, we are gathered here around a simple but important theme, ‘Impact Defined’” he said. “It is a theme that feels particularly relevant today, because we are living through a period where determination and resilience are more important than ever. Moments like these have a way of clarifying what matters. They remind us that lasting success is built through patience, trust, and the determination to keep moving forward.”
Such an approach, Alwan said, is not new to the UAE — on the contrary, he emphasized that it is a sentiment that the nation has been built upon. “The people who built this nation understood it well. It was the builders who shaped this place not in generations, but, rather in seasons. And they persevered when patience was the hardest choice. The result is the Abu Dhabi we know today, and the Emirates, and an economy built with the future in mind.”
“From the generation that transformed a desert into a nation, to the institutions that transform natural wealth into long-term prosperity, to the founders in this room transforming ideas into companies, there is a common principle that connects each chapter of that story built for the long-term — that is what we are here to continue, that is why founders succeed in Abu Dhabi,” Alwan added.
The CEO then shared that Hub71’s own mission has been fueled by the nation’s ambitions and resilience. “At Hub71, we see it every day in the founders who treat Abu Dhabi as a place to learn,” he said. “They come from different backgrounds, different sectors, and different parts of the world, but they share a common ambition: to create something meaningful and [intelligent.] What they find here is more than access to capital, talent, and markets; they find a community that believes in their potential and an ecosystem committed to their success. The reality is that great startups are rarely built alone. The strongest ecosystems understand this and intentionally create the conditions for founders to succeed.”
“In many ways, that is what resilience really means — resilience is not simply the ability to withstand challenges, it is the ability to continue creating value. It is the product of strong foundations, long-term commitment, and the shared belief in the future,” Alwan concluded.
