Future Health, a global initiative by Abu Dhabi, has announced the winners of the inaugural “Future Health Challenge”, awarding a total of US$300,000 to three health technology solutions aimed at improving early disease detection and population health systems.
The winners were selected from 393 submissions across 68 countries during a live pitching session held in Geneva, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly.
In collaboration with MIT Solve, a global marketplace for social impact innovation, the Future Health Challenge 2026: Building Anticipatory Health Systems through Population Sensing, focused on prevention-focused models of care, supported by data and technology for stronger population health insight. The initiative convenes stakeholders across innovation, policy, and investment to support the development and scaling of health solutions.
First prize of US$200,000 went to ThinkMD, an Australia-based platform that provides mobile clinical decision-support tools for frontline health workers. The system supports triage, treatment and referrals, and converts routine clinical interactions into real-time population health data. According to organizers, it is currently used by more than 9,000 frontline workers across 885 facilities and has previously identified symptom patterns linked to a cholera outbreak in Zambia.
Meanwhile, two finalists were given US$50,000 each, namely US-based Vector Control Innovations, which developed VectorCam, an AI-enabled mosquito surveillance system designed to improve early detection of vector-borne disease risks; and Brazil-based Huna, which applies AI to routine blood test data to flag elevated cancer risk and guide patients to appropriate screening and care pathways. Its pilot reportedly screened more than 500,000 patients to date.
“Through Future Health, we are creating opportunities to share Abu Dhabi’s approach to anticipatory, data-driven healthcare with the world, and to ensure that global innovators have access to pathways to deliver real-world impact,” Dr. Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health and Life Sciences Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi said.
Representatives from finalist, semi-finalist and selected honorable mention teams will present their work at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit scheduled from October 20–22, 2026.
