Uber Technologies, the global ride-hailing and delivery company, has agreed to acquire Germany-based food delivery company Delivery Hero in a transaction valuing the company at approximately US$14.8 billion, offering shareholders cash consideration equivalent to US$47.60 per share.
The acquisition would bring Delivery Hero’s Middle East businesses, including Dubai-headquartered Talabat, Saudi Arabia-based HungerStation, and Glovo’s operations in Morocco and Tunisia, into Uber’s global network.
Under the agreement, Uber will pay cash consideration equivalent to US$14.8 billion for Delivery Hero. The acquisition covers the majority of Delivery Hero’s operations across approximately 50 markets spanning Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
Separately, Delivery Hero has agreed to sell operations in 14 markets to New York-based investment firm SSW Partners for approximately US$1.6 billion. Uber will not acquire those businesses, which are primarily markets where the two companies have overlapping operations.
“Delivery Hero’s talented team has built an extraordinary business, with beloved local brands and leading positions across many of the world’s fastest-growing delivery markets,” Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, said in a statement. “By bringing our platforms together, we will extend affordable, reliable delivery to many millions more people in many of the world’s most dynamic economies, while creating more opportunities for merchants and couriers. Together, we’ll nearly double the number of markets where we offer both mobility and delivery services, scaling a proven platform that we believe will create significant long-term value for our customers and shareholders.”
Niklas Östberg, CEO of Delivery Hero, added: “Uber’s global mobility and delivery platform and our shared commitment to innovation make this the right partnership to build on Delivery Hero’s strengths in local food delivery and Quick Commerce, and to take our Everyday App strategy further for our customers.”
Following the transaction, Uber said it will operate mobility and delivery services in 58 markets, up from 34 currently, while expanding its overall presence to 99 markets worldwide. The combined businesses generated pro forma gross bookings of approximately US$236 billion in 2025, according to the companies.
Uber said the transaction is expected to be accretive to earnings upon closing and plans to finance the acquisition through existing cash reserves and new debt financing.
The acquisition remains subject to the successful completion of the takeover offer, regulatory clearances, and other customary closing conditions. Uber currently holds a direct stake of approximately 24.8% in Delivery Hero, while technology investor Prosus has agreed to tender its shares, increasing Uber’s total economic interest to approximately 53%.
The transaction is expected to close during the second half of 2027.
