King Saud University in Riyadh has ranked 11th globally in the 2026-2027 Global University Visibility (GUV) Rankings, becoming the only university in the Middle East to place among the top 100 institutions worldwide.
The university recorded a visibility score of 20,491,675, according to the rankings by American Caldwell, a higher education market research firm based in Washington, DC, which assessed more than 1,200 universities across all 193 UN-recognized countries based on public visibility across news media, websites, social platforms, and search behavior.
Rather than academic reputation, the ranking measures public attention, using indicators including website traffic, news mentions, public interest, social media reach, YouTube viewership, and other digital engagement signals collected over a one-year period. The methodology emphasizes measurable public engagement over peer reputation surveys or research output metrics.
Globally, Harvard University retained the top position for the fourth consecutive year with a visibility score of 65,404,595, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology with 60,656,253, and Stanford University with 45,052,212. Purdue University ranked fourth with a score of 27,111,753, while University of Oxford placed fifth as the highest-ranked non-US institution, with 26,570,862.
The next highest-ranked university from the Middle East was King Abdulaziz University, which placed 155th globally with a visibility score of 5,447,730.
“This edition marks the first time any visibility-based ranking has achieved complete global coverage,” said N. Alexander Kader, Managing Partner at American Caldwell. “The data tells a clear story: public attention is not confined to traditional academic powerhouses in the US and UK, universities in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia are commanding significant global attention.”
