Dubai’s Green Charger Initiative Supports Over 310 Million Kilometers of Electric Vehicle Travel

Electric vehicle (EV) charging activity in Dubai has increased steadily since the launch of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) Green Charger Initiative in 2014, with the network supplying more than 62,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity and supporting over 310 million kilometers of EV travel.
Dubai now has 2,223 EV charging stations, while registered users of the Green Charger Initiative have grown to 23,600, according to DEWA.
The charging network includes ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers installed across Dubai. Most fast chargers are installed at petrol stations.
H.E. Saeed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA, told Emirates News Agency (WAM) the initiative supports Dubai’s efforts to build a smart and sustainable city while transitioning to low-carbon mobility.
He added that the initiative aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.
DEWA’s Green Charger stations operate 24 hours a day and can be located through its website, smart application, and other digital platforms.
