Can Storytelling Save Lives?

For most of his career, Kamal Saleh built stories. Today, he’s applying the same principles to one of healthcare’s biggest challenges: helping people know what—and who—to trust.

Not every healthcare initiative begins inside a hospital.

Some begin behind a camera.

For more than fifteen years, Kamal Saleh has worked at the intersection of creativity, production and communication. As Executive Producer at RGB, he has led projects spanning commercial campaigns, documentaries, broadcast productions and digital content, helping governments, global brands and institutions translate complex ideas into stories people can understand and remember.

Throughout that journey, one lesson remained constant.

Information alone rarely changes behaviour.

The way information is communicated often does.

It was a lesson learned in the creative industry. Unexpectedly, it would become the foundation of a healthcare initiative.

When the Question Changed

Like many entrepreneurs, Saleh doesn’t describe The Health Community as the result of a business plan. He describes it as the result of a question.

That question emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic while working alongside one of the region’s leading healthcare institutions.

Medical expertise was everywhere. So was misinformation.

People were searching for answers, often turning first to search engines, social media and online forums long before speaking to a doctor. Reliable information existed, yet finding it had become increasingly difficult amid commercial content, conflicting opinions and algorithm-driven recommendations.

For Saleh, the challenge wasn’t simply medical.

It was human.

“We realised that people weren’t only looking for information,” he says. “They were looking for information they could trust.”

Instead of asking how to tell better stories, he began asking something altogether different.

Could better storytelling help people make better health decisions?

That question became the beginning of The Health Community.

Building Trust Before Treatment

Saleh is careful not to position The Health Community as simply another destination for health content.

Its purpose is more fundamental.

“Nearly 95% of online health information is either commercially driven or generic content shaped by algorithms,” he explains. “Even AI tools usually conclude by advising users to consult a verified doctor. We wanted to bridge that gap by creating a trusted destination where medical knowledge comes directly from qualified healthcare professionals.”

Every article, interview and educational resource begins with verified medical expertise. Technology makes that knowledge easier to access. Doctors remain the authority.

For Saleh, that distinction matters.

Technology can organise information.

Trust still comes from people.

A Different Measure of Success

Building The Health Community has also changed the way Saleh thinks about communication itself.

For much of his career, success was measured by audience engagement, production quality and creative execution.

Healthcare introduced a different benchmark.

“Real impact isn’t simply how many people we reach,” he says. “It’s how many people we help feel more informed, more confident and better prepared to make decisions about their health.”

It reflects a philosophy that extends well beyond healthcare.

The most valuable communication isn’t necessarily the loudest.

It’s the communication people believe.

Looking Ahead

Artificial intelligence is already transforming how people search for health information, but Saleh believes its greatest value lies in supporting—not replacing—the relationship between patients and healthcare professionals.

His vision is to continue expanding The Health Community into a growing body of verified medical knowledge across a wide range of specialties, allowing technology to guide people towards trusted information while encouraging meaningful conversations with qualified doctors.

“Knowledge is the first step toward healing,” he says.

It is a simple idea.

Yet perhaps the most powerful innovations are.

For Kamal Saleh, the future of healthcare may not begin with another medical breakthrough.

It may begin with helping people understand.
