Building a successful business often begins with spotting an opportunity. For Farida Fikri, it began with something much more personal: a lifelong passion for creating handcrafted chocolates and desserts that brought people together.

After years as a teacher in Sharjah, retirement gave her the opportunity to turn that passion into something more. What started in her kitchen gradually evolved into Chocoleaf, a premium handcrafted chocolate brand built around quality, creativity, and meaningful celebrations.

Farida entered this new chapter carrying the same qualities that had shaped her career in education: patience, presence, attention to detail, and a deep belief in continuous learning.

Only this time, her classroom was her kitchen.

Turning Passion into a Business

What began as a love for making chocolate, desserts, and pastries soon became something more. Farida wasn’t simply creating handcrafted treats; she was creating bespoke gifts that would become part of weddings, family gatherings, celebrations, and life’s memorable moments.

The business grew organically. Encouraged by family and friends, Farida continued refining her craft as word-of-mouth recommendations introduced Chocoleaf to a growing customer base across Sharjah. What started with modest resources and a passion for chocolate gradually developed into a business built on quality, trust, and genuine customer demand.

Today, Chocoleaf offers customized handcrafted chocolate gifting for weddings, engagements, graduations, newborn celebrations, corporate events, private gatherings, and hospitality occasions. Every creation is thoughtfully designed around the occasion, reflecting the brand’s belief that memorable moments deserve equally memorable details.

In a market where gifting can often feel standardized, Chocoleaf has carved out its niche by offering personalized products that combine premium craftsmanship with bespoke presentation.

“The idea began with a love for chocolate and pastry making, and a desire to create something beautiful that brings joy and becomes part of people’s special moments,” Farida says. “Over time, that passion grew into a business with its own unique touch, offering complete hospitality experiences.”

Building a Brand, One Order at a Time

She describes Chocoleaf as “a feeling that comes before the taste.”

Behind the elegant packaging and handcrafted chocolates, however, lies the reality familiar to many entrepreneurs. Building a business required far more than perfecting recipes. Every order became an opportunity to learn. Listening to customers, refining products, and continuously improving the overall experience became central to Chocoleaf’s growth.

Looking back, Farida sees clear parallels between teaching and entrepreneurship. One taught her patience. The other demanded resilience. Together, they shaped the mindset that continues to guide the business today.

That mindset has helped transform Chocoleaf from a home-based passion project into a growing Sharjah business with in-house production capabilities, customized product lines, and a loyal customer base of an estimated 150 to 250 customers each month, including individuals, families, event clients, and corporate customers seeking premium chocolate for gifting and hospitality.

For Farida, success is measured not simply by sales, but by becoming part of people’s celebrations and lasting memories. It is reflected in customers who return because they trust the quality of the products and the experience behind them.

Navigating Growth and Challenges

Like many growing businesses, Chocoleaf has also had to navigate rising costs and changing market conditions. One of the company’s biggest challenges has been maintaining premium ingredients while keeping its products accessible and competitive. Rather than compromise on quality, Farida has remained focused on what she believes customers value most: exceptional products, thoughtful service, and the flexibility to evolve alongside the business.

For Chocoleaf, quality rests on three pillars: carefully selected premium ingredients, high standards of cleanliness and production, and a passionate team that brings creativity and craftsmanship to every piece. But Farida believes sustainable growth depends on more than product quality alone. It requires strong operational systems, a supportive team, close attention to customer feedback, and the ability to adapt as the business evolves.

Lessons Beyond the Classroom

From the classroom to the kitchen, Farida Fikri’s journey demonstrates that entrepreneurship doesn’t always begin with a disruptive idea or early in one’s career. Sometimes, it begins with decades of experience, a lifelong passion, and the confidence to embrace a new opportunity.

For Farida, retirement wasn’t the final chapter. It was the beginning of building a business that continues to make life’s celebrations a little more memorable, one handcrafted chocolate at a time.
